Unit 1: Numbers and Operations in Base Ten / Understand Place Value System with Decimals

Unit One in Mathematics, this year, will have the following objectives:

• Recognize that a digit in one place value is ten times the number in the place value to its right and 1/10th the value of the number to the left.

• Explain patterns in the number of zeros when multiplying a number by the powers of 10.

• Explain patterns in the placement of a decimal when it is multiplied or divided by a power of 10.

• Use exponents to denote powers of ten.

• Read, write and compare decimals to thousandths using base-ten 

 These will be practiced by using the Eureka Math Program, some Singapore Math and Challenge Activities.
